Every image pixel can span from pure black (Red=0, Green=0, Blue=0) to pure white (Red=255, Green=255, Blue=255). Sometimes however an image doesn’t use this full spread and looks quite dull or, even worse, shows some undesired cast.
Moving left and right controls on the first slider you set respectively the darkest and the brightest point values in the image. As a result of this action iMage will remap all pixels, from the darkest value to the brightest one, between
0 an 255. The end result of this operation is that now image pixels use the full available range (0 to 255) and the image look improves.
Low and hilights clipping is showed, while controls are moved.
While the first slider works on the tone range end points, the second alters the linearity between the end-points thus working on the mid-range. Moving this slider left or right you can then darken or lighten mid-tones. iMage allows to work on these parameters for all channels at once, by selecting RGB on the segmented control or, separately on each channel, to remove or deliberately introduce a color cast.
What about the three eyedroppers? Rather than using the slider, just touch an eyedropper and another one will appear over the image, position it over a specific spot, and touch again, the spot will then be taken as the reference for the black, white or gray point depending on the eyedropper selected.
Tip: The gray eyedropper can be used to remove any unwanted cast. Position the gray eyedropper on a spot which is known to be neutral gray and tap it.
